What is the Apostille?

Updated: Oct 21

Israel is a signatory to the Apostille Convention (full name Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents), so documents notarised by an Israeli notary public and bearing an apostille stamp should not need further certification in the country to which they are being sent. The apostille stamp is attached to the back of the notarisation certificate and can be obtained at most local courts and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem. The procedure is simple and not expensive.

In my experience, you usually do not need an apostille (e.g., private American organisations like banks or universities typically do not require them), but it is always best to ask first.
